Here’s What Happened When I Consumed Collagen Everyday (plus 3 Collagen Drink Recipes)

Hey Y’all! Today, on the blog, I’m sharing with you a health and beauty hack that I’ve been doing for about 2 years now.  

So, what is it?

Consuming a high quality, pasture-raised Collagen Protein powder every single day.

The word ‘Collagen’ has always been a super-trendy term in the world of skincare, but it has now been making it’s way into the world of health nuts for a few years now.

And, I admit – I fell for the collagen protein hype 2+ years ago.

I jumped on the bandwagon with extremely high hopes.

Why?  

Well, because (like most women) I wanted better skin, hair, nails, and all the supposed beauty benefits collagen gives to you.  

Plus, I’m over 30 now, which means it’s time to start focusing on anti-aging and skincare!

And, I figured ingesting collagen instead of only applying it topically would yield better results.

So, did it work?

Short Answer:  Yes, with consistency.

Here’s how collagen helped my skin…

I dealt with horrific hormonal, cystic acne for about 7 years of my life, and I can gladly say that my acne has completely cleared thanks to balancing my hormones with diet (here’s the diet I used) and lifestyle changes.

However, I was left with pretty bad acne scars on my cheeks that really put a damper on my confidence.

So, I was on a mission to get rid of these scars by any means necessary.

Now, I would be lying if I told you that ingesting collagen was the only thing I did in my mission to re-build and heal my skin.

In fact, I’ve done facials, creams, skin needling, peels, and lots of other topical treatments… I’m talking 1000s of dollars!

And, while some of them showed slight improvement, most of them left me less than impressed (and more broke) 😉

The one thing that was always consistent in my mission to re-build my skin was ingesting collagen on a daily basis.

And, I firmly believe it is one of the main reasons why I’ve seen gradual improvement in my skin tone, texture, and pigmentation over the past 2 years.

I’ll admit – my acne scars aren’t completely gone, but the depth and rigidness of them have improved by at least 70%… even my family and friends have noticed.

I’m fine with that… any progress is a good thing, IMO.  

 

Other Unexpected Benefits…

As stated above, the main reason I began consuming collagen daily was to improve my acne scars.

But, to my surprise, I began noticing other benefits too, such as my hair thickening, my leaky gut issues decreasing, and my overall skin tone being much smoother and brighter.

My nails are stronger and grow much faster… it’s almost unreal how much faster they grow compared to before.

Some of the minor improvements include faster recovery from intense workouts.

I also notice when adding collagen to my drinks, I stay fuller longer.

With all of these unexpected benefits, you better believe I’ll continue to incorporate collagen into my daily diet for the longterm, especially for its skincare properties.

It has, certainly, become a staple in my health and beauty routine.
 




 

Importance of Quality (this is key!)…

One thing I want to emphasize is quality.  Not just any collagen protein will work.

Using a high quality collagen protein from pasture-raised animals is the most important thing to consider if you’re going to start consuming collagen.

In fact, if the collagen is sourced from conventional, factory-farmed animals, then I don’t suggest consuming it at all.  It would do more harm than good, IMO.

The Bulletproof Collagen is the one I use and love.  It’s from pasture-raised cows and is one of the best collagen proteins I’ve seen on the market.

  1. 1/2 C. Water
  2. 1/2 C. Full-Fat Coconut Milk (in the can)
  3. 1/2 Tbsp Grass-fed Ghee
  4. 1 Tbsp Brain Octane Oil
  5. 1 Scoop Collagen Protein Powder
  6. 1-2 Tbsp Raw Cacao Powder (for the chocolate flavor)
  7. 1/2-1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  8. Low Carb Sweetener, to taste (I used birch xylitol)
  9. Dash of Cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Add water and coconut milk to a saucepan over medium heat and heat to your desired temperature.
